vintage white cabinet

This little cabinet was in very sad shape when I got her...

I thought she would clean up nicely and look great in a crisp, clean white. I went to work with some "Pure White" Annie Sloan Chalk Paint and soft wax for a protective finish. To complete the look, I distressed her slightly along the edges. Here's how she looks now...

The hardware needed to make a statement against the white. I loved this knob from Hobby Lobby and was able to pair it with a vintage handle.

I love how it all came together... a great piece of vintage furniture with lots of character and charm.

This pretty white cabinet will go to the Lucky Star Market with me!

Thanks for stopping by!

a French inspired fruit crate

I'm a huge fan of Dreamy Whites. Have you heard of it? Maria Carr has an online shop where she sells beautiful French farmhouse wares. They are so dreamy and inspiring.  She also blogs and her photography is an art form in itself. I LOVE to look through her photos on the blog as well as the ones she shares on Instagram. Well, she sells these amazing vintage French strawberry crates. (click here if you want to see them) As fun as it would be to buy one, $125 dollars just doesn't work in our budget. And since I have such a talented husband... I asked if he would "please, pretty please" make me one.

My husband did not let me down. I love that man! He determined the dimensions that would work best and was able to achieve the vintage aesthetic that I loved. So, in it's most basic form... it's a fruit crate...

However, it's so pretty and charming, it could be used in a lot of ways. I had fun putting together a few different settings...

and the good news is... he made a couple more for me to sell at Lucky Star Market the first weekend in December. Come take a look if you appreciate the character and charm of these. I'll have some pretty vintage housewares that you can mix/match and put together a really great gift for someone or even yourself using the crate. The dimensions are: length- 15 in. and width- 10 in. height- 8 in.

Thanks for stopping by!
I promise that a furniture post is coming next... I've just gotten a little carried away with pretty housewares lately :)

Sneak Peek: Vintage Dishes for Holiday Market

I've been busy collecting vintage housewares and pretty little things to sell along with my furniture for the Lucky Star Market. Today I just thought I'd share a little peek at some of the treasures I've come across.

With most vintage and antique dishes you quickly learn that complete sets are few and far between. I've found that when you find a pretty dish or two that you love... you buy it. I'm able to mix and match the pieces I've collected. It's fun to put them together for a unique table setting or put them to use in your home in other ways.

Isn't this design so pretty!?! I thought it had a "wintery" feel to it... makes me think of little snowflakes. I found two of these plates and one serving bowl. They are from W.H. Grindley & Co. and I love them! They would be great to get out and decorate with every Christmas season.

This pretty little dish also caught my eye...

The delicate hand-painted flowers are my favorite . I found two of these and thought they could be used as little soap dishes, candle holders or for jewelry. Here's the marking for this one...

How about this one? So dainty and charming as well. Aqua, pink and gold never gets old to me :)

I was so excited when I found these vintage dishes. I love the gold trim and scroll design. What makes it even better is that I found 10 complete table settings!!! Here's a photo of one table setting...
(dinner plate, salad plate, bread and butter plate, tea cup and saucer)

Here's the marking for them...

The Royal Doulton French Provincial dinnerware was produced in 1957 through 1976. If you've wanted to add some vintage table settings in your home but haven't known where to start... this would be an excellent set to get you going. It will mix and match beautifully with all sorts of dinnerware. I will be selling them as complete table settings and like I said before, I have 10 of them!  Since I got them at a good price, I will happily be passing that along to you.

I don't know about you, but with snow on the ground this morning, a warm fire going in my stove and all this planning I'm doing for market... the Christmas spirit has gotten to me :)

I'll be sharing more of what will be going to market with me so stay tuned! I'm most excited to share a little project that my husband is doing for me. I pushed, pulled and dragged him into it and I'm so glad I did. He is too whether he admits it nor not :)

Also, I'm on Instagram now. You can find me at m.vintagecharm
I share lots of family, home and country living but I want to be able to use it for my furniture and pretty little things as well. Follow along if you wish... there's a link in the side column of my blog.

I went to check on my kids as I'm wrapping up this post because I kept hearing these loud thuds... apparently I'm missing out on a "pool party". Love my babes!

Thanks for stopping by!

Chalk Paint 101 at TLC Vintage Collection

Happy Saturday... hope it's been a good one for you! Just wanted to share a quick post with you today about the Chalk Paint class I was able to attend. In my rush to get the kids ready and out the door, I forgot to grab my camera! Thankfully I did have my phone so I was able to take a few photos throughout.

I've mentioned TLC Vintage Collection before.  It's the wonderful little vintage shop in Des Moines that I buy my specialty paint supplies from... Annie Sloan Chalk Paint and Miss Mustard Seed Milk Paint. This is where my class was today. She offers several different workshops but I wanted to start at the beginning, so I opted for the Chalk Paint 101 Plus. It was awesome... I am so thankful I had the opportunity to do this. Janet Piller (owner of this shop) offered me this class as a birthday present. She said that I've sent some business her way and this was her way of saying thanks. So thank you to everyone who has stopped by her shop and made mention that "Mimi sent you!" I really appreciate that.

I happily put my apron on this morning and went to work...

In the Chalk Paint 101 class we went over six paint techniques along with clear and dark wax methods. Janet has a wealth of information which she readily shares. I love the hands-on approach and I know a lot of other people do too. Video tutorials on the internet are great and very helpful but this was a big step-up for me.

My painting has been very basic thus far and I definitely prefer a clean and simple look but this will help me branch out a bit. My favorite techniques from today were the liming, the color wash and the dry brushing. This class confirmed for me that I do not like dark wax... just a personal preference thing and I'm probably in the minority there. While I love whites, greys and other neutrals... it was fun to work with some bold and beautiful colors today...

It was a great group of ladies today. I think there were nine or ten of us total. (wish I had my camera to get the whole group in this shot) We did a good job getting messy and that is half the fun. So if you decide to take a painting class, wear your painting clothes! If you want to see a list of classes that are offered, click here .

Go check out this shop when you get a chance. You can see the beautiful furniture she has painted and the dreamy vintage housewares. You may find treasure to take home for yourself.
